Seven minutes in bamboo heaven!

Ever since I first laid eyes on the bamboo grove at our new property I knew I was in love.  I was going to make incredibly art with that bamboo!  The vertical lines, the way the light seeps into the grove, just so delicious!  That was THREE whole months ago!!!  I finally got around to photographing someone in there when Max (my wonderful husband who is also a photographer) had a model, Willa Prescott, over for a photo shoot.  Willa was so amazing and was totally cool with me jumping in at the end of their shoot to do a couple of photos in the bamboo. As a creative professional, it's SO important to do things for myself every now and then that get my creative juices flowing.  This shoot, even though it only lasted 7 minutes, inspired me beyond belief.  I'm now formulating a new branch of Breathless Boudoir that allows every day women to become a work of art!

Virginia Nature Boudoir with waterfall

*BEEP BEEP BEEP* My alarm started going off at 4:30am.  Heavy with sleep, all I wanted to do was shut it off and roll back over to continue sleeping, but I had a mission to complete: create amazing fine art nude photos in front of a waterfall.  So I got my ass out of bed begrudgingly, it was still dark outside.  We counted 13 deer in the misty morning light on our hour drive to begin our hike.  We were the only car in the parking lot, save for the car that belonged to the campers who stayed the night before, and that was the whole point of waking up before the sun.  We wanted to get out there before anyone else did so we had time alone with the waterfall.  And we did, and it was so glorious! I was nearly *DROOLING* over what I saw on the back of my camera!  The light, the motion of the water, the grace in Laura's nude form... GAH!  Photographic ecstasy I tell you!

Photographing someone in a waterfall is no cakewalk.  For one, there was a waterfall directly behind Laura, so we had to communicate by yelling over the roaring water.  Not to mention the water was quite chilly.  Laura was a trooper though, she held very still for the 2 second exposures, even though there were things crawling on her at times.  The photos were definitely worth it though.  Laura is a photographer as well and has been on a mission of creating stunning waterfall photos.  She has done a series of self portraits, but wanted to have a chance to just be the model in the photos.  And now, she gets to be forever immortalized as fine art suitable for a gallery wall!  Just look at how the light flows across her skin like silk... mmmm.... sooo much love.

Shift is Happening.... Charlottesville VA and Flying Solo

Charlottesville Virginia Here We Come!!!

First things first, as I have mentioned in a previous blog Max and I are expanding our boudoir photography to Charlottesville, VA.  Our official move date to set up our Virginia location is April 6 (EEK, so close!).  It's getting closer and closer and we're getting more and more excited!  We're already meeting amazing people in the Charlottesville area and can't wait to meet so many more!  We're currently looking for a professional hair stylist & makeup artist, so if you are one or know one get in touch!  I'll also be on the lookout for businesses to partner with such as salons, dance studios, and lingerie companies to name a few.

(I'll also be in need of a yoga studio for my personal life, so bring on your recommendations!)

Don't worry, Louisiana, I'll be back as soon as June for shoots as well as throughout the year!  This isn't goodbye by a loooong shot!

Flying Solo

After 4 and a half years of working side by side with the love of my life, we recently decided that I would take the business over and run it as a solo endeavor.

The reasons are diverse, the most important of which is a personal decision. When you work side by side with your partner / lover / husband, your life can become 100% about business, 100% of the time. There were many nights when we would discuss how we wanted to do things late into the night. There were some points where the business was literally every conversation we had for a week at a time. It was really quite amazing how much of ourselves we've put into this business. Would I change how we started this business? No way. Starting this business with the love of my life was the best thing I've ever done. We built the best business we wanted to build. We literally created a dream in reality and have been living it for the past few years. In one part of our life we couldn't be happier.

However, our personal life needed some tender loving care. So last year we thought it would be a good idea if I took over the business and Max pursued some of his many interests (fine art photography, gardening, music production, and cross country motorcycle adventures to name a few) and I would take the business into new directions with the body acceptance and women empowerment movements. This is good news all around!!! We're both going to continue to pursue our dreams!!!

I feel like working with women in a meaningful way is finally coming full circle.  When I graduated high school I went to college to get a degree in psychology so that I could help women with self esteem and body image issues.  After a very sudden and tragic shift in my life, I strayed away from that dream.  Years later when I went back to school for photography I had no intention of pursuing the same dream, the thought never even crossed my mind.  While I was in school my focus gravitated towards photographing women, which would eventually lead to a business with Max and helping women with accepting their bodies!  It was the most beautiful accident I've ever witnessed!  I found another way to pursue my passion.

I'll be updating the website to reflect these changes in the upcoming weeks.

P.S. Max and I are just fine, we're shifting the balance of priorities and investing ourselves in new projects and directions.  Here's what he's been up to with his fine art project.  (My own shoot with him will be this weekend!)

Picking up where we left off last week... ©2014 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly

This was our "home" for the night, tents around a fire under the Milky Way.  What more could I ask for?  My heart was content.  Had I known that things would only get better in the morning, I may have exploded as soon as the Milky Way showed up to our camp.  Not even kidding, spontaneous combustion on the spot.  But alas, the next morning was mind blowing.

We woke up at the crack of dawn.  No, that's not even true.  We woke up BEFORE the crack of dawn to be sure that we were up in time for when the sun awoke from it's slumber.  If you know me at all, you know I'm not a morning person.  At. All. For some strange reason, just like I'm able to hang over a cliff with my camera in my hands, I'm also able to bounce out of bed (or in this case my tent) at ridiculous hours when there's photos to be made.  Give me fog in a field and a beautiful woman to photograph and I'm awake!  And that's exactly what I had to work with.

Hanging over a 50 ft. cliff, toes curled around the edge of the rock, my creativity flowed as freely as the river below.  Charlottesville, Virginia officially has my heart!  I really wish I could have snapped a behind the scenes photo of what it took to capture the gorgeous photo above!  It was Louise's idea to be in the water while I photographed her from above.  I'm not going to lie, just the mention of that idea had me a bit queasy.  I'm not exactly afraid of heights, but they're not my best friend either.  I love relishing in beautiful views from the tops of mountains, I just don't want to hang my toes over the edge.  When we scouted the location the day before she showed me the spot she had in mind.  I climbed up to the top to see if I could make it happen, and I couldn't really make myself get as close as I need to get a shot of the water without getting the cliff in the shot.  "Oh boy" I thought, "this is going to take some guts."  I had it in my mind that it may not work at all.  The next day after we had been shooting for a while and totally in love with everything we were getting.  It was time to try the water shot.  Louise and her husband had an idea to keep me safe.  I was going to "wear" her tripod case across my chest and her husband was going to hang on to the strap to stabilize me.  I'll have you know that the second I stepped up to the edge and saw Louise floating in the water with the fabric around her I completely forgot that I was afraid.  I went right up to the edge and hung over as much as physics would allow.  Even my toes were over the edge!  Something about having the camera in my hands and inspiration right in front of me made me feel invincible!  I "oooooed and ahhhed" with every shot.  And Louise was such a trooper!  Did I mention how cold the water was?  Buuurrrr!!!  It was quite chilly, especially for this Louisiana girl!  Time and time again she would swim upstream and spread the fabric out, letting the stream carry her through the frame of my camera.  I get chills just thinking back on that day.  Such perfection.  I love being inspired by nature and femininity!

We shot photos until it got too dark to shoot, then we set up camp and hung out around a fire.  This, by the way, is my idea of an absolutely perfect day!  Making gorgeous photos and camping!  I about died when I realized that the Milky Way Galaxy is visible with the naked eye from where we were camped.  Oh. My. God.  So humbling.  I couldn't miss taking a photo of it.  But I'm going to save that, as well as the next day's gorgeous photos, for next week!  Make sure to subscribe to the blog so you don't miss it!  Check us out on Facebook as well!

In just a few months Max and I will be more than thrilled to the Charlottesville Virginia Boudoir Photography that knocks people's socks off!  We're already booking session in April and May.  Our studio will be based in Charlottesville and we'll be traveling to the surrounding areas including Arlington, Richmond, Roanoke, and Washington, D.C. frequently.  When we do sessions in those areas they will take place in boutique hotels as well as in client's homes.

Erica's Boudoir Session | Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Erica is an extraordinary woman whom I found very inspiring.  She has been through some really rough stuff, but was given a new chance at life and has not taken it for granted.  Her personality had so much spunk that it inspired me to try new things with her, particularly in the fine art nudes section. ©2014 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly

Fine Art Destination Boudoir Photography | Florida | Part 4 of 4

©2014 Breathless Boudoir | Jen TromblyThis is the last blog in the travel boudoir series from Florida, and possibly one of my favorite... though it's such a close race because I love ALL of the posts so much! My heart is in the forest, that's where I feel the most connected to nature, and the most at peace.  It also proved to be the most challenging shoot of all of them. The day before we photographed this portion of the series we were scouting locations and I saw the dappled light.  At first I was kind of bummed because dappled light is very hard to work with in most scenarios because the exposure is so different in the bright areas where the sun is shining though than it is in the darker areas. This causes the bright areas to "blow out", or turn completely white and lack all details.  Not so pretty.  While we were walking I had an idea, so I took a test shot to see if it would work and HOLY SMOKES did it ever work!  Not only did it work, but it looked just as awesome as I thought it would in my head!!!  ©2014 Breathless Boudoir | Jen TromblyIt created a mysterious and moody look to the photos.  It was a challenge to find the perfect spots, with the light hitting the right places and the background not too busy, but when we did it was magic!  I can't wait to do more outdoor sessions! ©2014 Breathless Boudoir | Jen Trombly ©2014 Breathless Boudoir | Jen Trombly ©2014 Breathless Boudoir | Jen Trombly ©2014 Breathless Boudoir | Jen Trombly ©2014 Breathless Boudoir | Jen Trombly

Now that this is the last post from this series I'm going to have to go out and do another destination session!

That being said, we're open for booking TODAY for our next beach shoot, which will be held in Navarre Beach, Florida on July 15-17.  Our space is very limited, so call now to book: 225-571-3668.

Each session will include hair and makeup styling and a sunset or sunrise session on the sugar white sands of Navarre Beach. We will send out a questionnaire once you book your session to determine what style beach session you would like to do (soft flowing fabrics, sexy swim suit, tastefully erotic, etc.). Your session will be completely customized for you.  You don't have to be completely nude for this session, you can wear whatever you want to wear.  You could even make it a couple's session!

The cost of the session will be $650 (plus tax), which is due when the session is booked.

©Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max TromblyContinuing the travel boudoir series, I had the honor of photographing my mother for the second time.  Yes, you heard that right, ^ this gorgeous woman is my mother.  We started off on the same rocks from the first post in this series (if you missed that post click here). ©Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly©Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly ©Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max TromblyNext we went to New Smyrna Beach, which is a clothing optional beach.  We played in the surf for hours and walked miles up and down the beach.  (Click here for more photos from New Smyrna Beach).

©Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly©Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max TromblyThen, something happened that I was not prepared for.  My mom asked for the camera.  I just laughed at first, but she was persistent.  So I handed her the camera.  The photos she produced actually blew my mind, and I'm now considering hiring her!  Ha ha!

“Hold out your hands to feel the luxury of sunbeams. Press the soft blossoms against your cheek, and finger their graces of form, their delicate mutability of shape, their pliancy and freshness. Expose your face to the aerial floods that sweep the heavens, ‘inhale great draughts of space,’ wonder, wonder at the wind’s unwearied activity. Pile note on note the infinite music that flows increasingly to your soul from the tactual sonorities of a thousand branches and tumbling waters. How can the world be shriveled when this most profound, emotional sense, touch, is faithful to its service? I am sure that if a fairy bade me choose between the sense of sight and that of touch, I would not part with the warm, endearing contact of human hands…” ― Helen Keller, The Open Door

This is the second post in the travel boudoir series from Florida.  To start at the beginning, click here. BreathlessBoudoir_fine_art_nude_beach_02_BWI think this is the most successful outdoor shoot I've ever done in terms of portraying passion and sensuality.  I love the way you can almost feel what she's feeling in each photo.  To me, that's what makes a photo successful, if it evokes emotions and feelings.  Photographing beach boudoir made it easy to bring out the passion, being in the sun and sand feels so sexy to begin with!

There's honestly so much more I want to do in the great big wide world we have, this is just the tip of the iceberg.  BreathlessBoudoir_fine_art_nude_beach_04_BW BreathlessBoudoir_fine_art_nude_beach_05_BW BreathlessBoudoir_fine_art_nude_beach_03 BreathlessBoudoir_fine_art_nude_beach_06_BW BreathlessBoudoir_fine_art_nude_beach_07_BWBreathlessBoudoir_fine_art_nude_beach_08_BW If you missed the first segment of this series click here.
