A pick-me-up for a bad day.

Please excuse me while I get  real for a minute... Jen_selfie-11

It's been one of those days, actually, one of those months.  I've just been feeling really down on myself, not liking what I see in the mirror, yada yada yada.  Self esteem is something I've struggled with for my entire life.  This is one of the reasons I do what I do with boudoir photography.  I know how much low self esteem can affect different aspects of your life.  It's such a gift to be able to give women that little boost of confidence and let them know just how beautiful they are.  These past few weeks when I've been down have been really getting to me, I've been in a bad mood, irritable towards Max, not able to focus on tasks, etc.  To be frank, I've just felt like crap.  And tired.

Today, we had an awesome session with a lovely lady I can't wait to blog about! Here's a sneak peek of her session:

So the session rocked, I was feeling pretty good on the way home and decided to do something about my self esteem issue.  I'm not the kind of girl that puts a whole lot of effort into my every day appearance.  I rarely wear makeup and my hair is usually pulled back.  I dress nice, but it doesn't go much farther than that.  Lately I've been "letting myself go", so to say, more and more.  So tonight I put on some lipstick and rouge!

Halfway through doing my makeup I realized the shirt I was wearing didn't match the look I was going for at all.  So what did I do?  Traded in my clothes for a new set of lingerie I picked up from Bonjour Lingerie recently.  BAM!  That totally did it for me!  This set is sassy with a high waisted bottom that ties around the neck, embellished with studs and a bra to match.  It's mesh so you can see through it just enough.  I felt so damn sexy, but I wasn't finished yet.  Once my look was completed I grabbed the camera and started snapping selfies.  I was having some trouble getting focus (damn fancy camera) when Max walked in.  Of course he took over for me and started directing me.  It was pretty awesome, we don't photograph each other often so it was a treat.  I could feel my confidence rising the more we shot, I stared to get braver with posing and flirting with the camera (something I usually avoid unless I'm having a "good day").

Working on my photos made me realize that I guess I had forgotten what I looked like after having my head down for so long, tending to everything else but me.  I was avoiding the mirror because I didn't really like what I was seeing that much, I didn't even try to like it.  I know it's not all about your outer beauty, and that I should learn to love myself for who I am, and as I am without the makeup. But damn it, sometimes that's really hard to do when you get in a rut, sometimes we just need that little bit of extra pick-me-up to get us where we need to be.

So there it is.  Toothpaste splatters and all.

If you ever need a pick-me-up and can't get in for a boudoir session, you can try this method too.  A good friend of mine, Stacie Frazier, who is a boudoir photographer in Las Vegas wrote a blog series on talking self portraits.  Go visit our What to Wear for your boudoir session blog post, then get cozy with Stacie for a bit and learn the ins and outs of sexy self portraits.

Now that it's 1am, I'm going curl up in my bed with a good book to fall asleep with.  I feel ready to take on tomorrow.

Lots of love, Jen <3

Lacy's Baton Rouge Boudoir Session

"This shoot and the photographers single handedly made me feel like I was a work of art! Luckily they captured these artful and beautiful moments so I can share it with someone special! It's not just a session that the only result is beautiful photographs... It's a experience that gives you enough self confidence to last a lifetime!" Lacy

Katy's White Sheet Session! | Baton Rouge Boudoir

Katy applied for our model call.  In her words, it was a "what the hell, it couldn't hurt" kinda thing.  Later she said that she didn't expect to get picked at all (which is what everyone has said so far, lol).  It was an immediate yes for us.  Her reasoning sold us completely on the idea and we wanted to help her in her mission to educate people that just because she's in a wheelchair doesn't mean she's not sexy.  She is HELLA sexy!  As shown in the photos.  ;)   What was your biggest fear before the session? Did your fear come true, and if not, what happened instead?

Since I was picked for the "model call," one of my big worries was actually disappointing Jen & Max. I feared they wouldn't get what was wanted and/or needed from the shoot. I have the inner cynic that most women have about what they dislike about their bodies (my nose is too big, I'll never have a flat stomach, I have the legs and hips of a 12 year old boy), but then being paralyzed brings another load of flaws and self confidence issues to worry about. I stalked...uhmm, I mean, scoured ;) their Facebook, website, blog, & pinterest leading up to the appointment. When I looked at the gorgeous women and their bowed backs and long-legged, high heeled feet arched just so, I had distinct moments of "Oh God, this is never going to work." "They are going to wish they went with someone else." "I'm going to look so stupid" But it did work... 200 times better than I could have imagined. Jen & Max are fantastic. I never felt inferior or limited in posing. Even in the one or two times I had to say I didn't have have the balance for something, or that position wasn't going to work, there was no awkward hesitation. It was a quick "no problem," and off to the next direction. I loved that they didn't simply ask you to pose. Oh, how laughable those pictures would have turned out. They guided me through the process seamlessly. It was a lot easier to get out of my own head and listen to their directions than I thought. Following their cues helped to shush the voice that said 'You probably look like an idiot' or 'how big is that extra pudge of skin right now.'.

©2013 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max TromblyWhat was your favorite part of your Breathless Boudoir experience and why?

Being in a wheelchair my entire life, I've gotten an array of comments about myself from people. Most of it is well intentions, some strange, some borderline impolite. It's hard not to let insecurities take over when someone wants to "heal" you outside of a movie theater, been asked if you had friends on more than one occasion, and told "You're hot but in a wheelchair." I feel like society sometimes has a hard time recognizing me as an adult, much less as a real woman. Problem is, people aren't even trying to be mean. Even without factoring in the otherworldly perfection of supermodels and celebrities, when is the last time that someone in a wheelchair has been portrayed as sexy or simply physically beautiful in the media? The foremost reason for stepping out of my comfort zone to apply to the model call and doing the shoot was to prove to myself first and then others that there was an inner vixen lurking inside along with the inner cynic and inner dork. It's oddly foreign to describe myself as a vixen (with a straight face no less), but Jen & Max found one somewhere with their lens'. I wanted to broaden people's views on what and who could be viewed as sexy, and with the help of everyone at the studio it was a mission well accomplished.

©2013 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly(This next part made me laugh out loud.) If you were to recommend us to your best friend, what would you say?

Do it! Do it now! Do it yesterday! Don't wait until it's a valentines or pre wedding gift for the guy in your life, do it for you. Every girl should skip high school & college graduation photos, and do this instead.

©2013 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max TromblyKaty's full testimonial:

From the moment you get there, the focus is on you but not so much that you feel like a bug under a microscope. And can I please live in a world where everyday I only have to get up and brush my teeth because someone else is going to do my hair and make up? You're going to be nervous (less so once things get started) and feel silly. That's okay. Don't let that take over having fun though. It's okay to stop and laugh. Somehow it's a lot less awkward taking clothes off in front of people you just met with a camera than strangers at a doctors office. It's because they don't just point a camera at you and say go. They give direction, and ask your opinion, and move around and hum with the music. They're nice, real people. Things are going to feel over the top, but if a man can strike a sexy pose less than two feet from his wife then you can at least try to imitate it. The session feels like five minutes but at the same time I was so surprised when it was over that something so amazing only took an hour and a half. Then after your shipped off to lunch you come back to see the pictures. It's nice that they take out all the eyes closed, in mid-sneeze looking shots before showing them to you. I stared at the screen wondering how that could be me. You're not so made up and photoshopped that you don't look like yourself. It's was me, but the me I pictured in my head when trying to channel sexy. Seeing visual proof of that mental image is 400% better than expected. You're pretty much going to want every single picture. Also, schedule something to go do after the shoot because you leave feeling like a million bucks, you're all dolled up, and you're dying to tell someone what just happened.

We couldn't contain the tears...

©2013 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly"Oh my God" she said, then a sharp intake of air.  A sniffle from Max.  I knew the waterworks were knocking on my eyelids.  Karen had her hands to her face almost the whole time she was seeing her photos for the first time.  As she wiped her eyes my tears spilled over.  I glanced at Max to see him wiping away tears as well. ©2013 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max TromblyIt. Was. Intense.

Karen came to us with an amazing weight loss story.  She's a 40 year old mother of 2 and has lost 98lbs!  THAT... is life changing!  Not only did she look absolutely incredible, but she was a wonderful person.  It felt like we had been friends forever!

The day after her session she sent us this email, and the waterworks started all over again!!

"Hello Jen and Max....
I cannot begin to tell you how amazing y'all made me feel! I have wanted to do boudoir photos for several years, and my experience with y'all far exceeded anything I could have ever imagined.   From the moment that my appointment was booked, to the minute I walked in the door of your studio, I was so very excited about my session!  I honestly did not have the slightest idea how very different I would be when my shoot was over and I had seen myself from your side of the camera! The hair, the makeup, the music, the posing....I truly felt like a supermodel.  Both of you made me so comfortable! I was not nervous at all! It was so much fun!  When I returned to the studio to see my pictures, I was completely in awe! The first image of me appeared, and it was breathtaking.  I was absolutely beautiful!  As each new picture came on the screen, I was awed even more.  I cannot say enough times how amazing I felt, and even more about how your photos made me look.  I am still speechless, and every time I tell somebody about my experience, I get choked up and my eyes well up with tears.  I am eternally grateful to the both of you for giving me the opportunity to do this.  My life is forever changed by my experience with the two of you and my session at your studio. Every woman should experience that at least once in their life! I am so proud to be a Breathless Boudoir client!!
Grateful, speechless, and in love with my pictures!"

It took a lot of trust and vulnerability for Karen to be able to open up to us, and that means the world to us. Intimacy is something we keep hidden in the bedroom, so it takes soo much bravery to be able to show that to a couple who you just met.
But like I said, we had already been friends forever from the moment we met.
It's really an amazing feeling to be able to give that gift to women.
Now it's your turn, what are you waiting for?  Let's chat!  225-571-3668

Boudoir session to keep the intimacy alive!

Meet Bobbi, she's "a wife, mom, and a high school math teacher, so I am very, very busy. We also have a farm, so I also keep busy taking care of the animals."  She did her session as a gift to her husband, he's an offshore worker and they spend a lot of time apart,so her session for him was a way to keep their intimacy strong.  She had been wanting to do a boudoir session for two years!!!  It was our before and after shots that finally made her do her own session because it showed her "how they can look with real people".©2013 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly

"I was extremely skeptical about this process. I am tall, have a big frame, and more baby fat and stretch marks than I could ever want, I did not think this would go well for me and I was dead wrong. These guys are true professionals and did everything they could to make me feel comfortable and sexy throughout the shoot. Then when I saw the pictures....holy cow!!! I never expected them to turn out so well! I felt more sexy than I ever have and I barely recognized myself. By the 3rd picture I was in tears. It may be a little pricey, but by the end it was all worth it! This will be something great for my husband to keep forever and I will never regret the experience."
And here is what she has to say to YOU! "Have faith in Max and Jen, they are amazing! It is so worth it even if you're not a size 2! Be honest and upfront

about what you want and don't want, and follow their lead, they will not let you down!"
So what are you waiting for?!  Give me a call and let's chat about the details of your session! 225-571-3668

Photographing a photographer's wife!

1_boudoir_prep_makeoverI'm going to be completely honest here, doing Bethany's session was just as nerve wracking for us as it was for her.  The reason she was having boudoir photos done was because she was getting married.  We have clients like that regularly, but the difference here is that Bethany is getting married to a fellow photographer that Max and I know.  Eeek!!!  We knew we could create beautiful photos of Bethany beyond a shadow of a doubt, but we really felt the pressure to do the very best job possible. In the end it turned out to be a piece of cake anyways, Bethany has such a great personality and was very easy to relate to, not to mention this woman is gorgeous!!!! After over a MONTH of waiting for their wedding day, he finally messaged me today (on their wedding day!) to thank us for the photos.  Woo hoo!  Mission accomplished! When I was writing this blog I found and re-read Bethany's testimonial.  It made me tear up (again) because it means so much to be to be able to allow women to love their bodies and to see them as we see them.  Beautiful.

"Doing a shoot with Breathless Boudoir was one of the coolest experiences ever- way beyond what I expected it to be.  I originally decided to do a boudoir shoot as a surprise for my husband-to-be for our wedding.  I had considered some other  boudoir photographers in the area, but my fiance is a professional photographer himself, and hence a total photography snob.  I remembered him months back mentioning that he knew Jen & Max- He spoke so highly of them and how much he admired their work.  In addition, our amazing wedding photographer could not say enough great things about them.  It was clear who I had to go to for my boudoir shoot. Though I was incredibly nervous, Jen & Max are the kind of people who just put you at ease.  They are so sweet and do everything they can to make you feel comfortable.  Their technical skill is only matched by their awesome personalities! Being able to see the shots after my session was incredible.  I audibly gasped and had my jaw dropped when I saw them because I couldn't believe how good they were!!  I had walked in thinking I needed to pick one photo that I could tolerate enough to have printed and give to my fiance.  But I actually loved so many that I had trouble paring down the shots to fit into a book!! I have NEVER liked photos of myself with clothes on or liked the way my body looked, so it was nothing short of revolutionary to actually love pictures of myself in lingerie, and I entirely have Jen & Max and their artistry to thank for it! My motivation for the shoot may have been a gift for my fiance, but really it ended up being the biggest gift to myself.  I would recommend a Breathless Boudoir shoot for any woman looking for the ultimate self-esteem tuneup.  The confidence and smile I've been wearing since my shoot has been priceless-THANK YOU JEN & MAX!!!"

And without further ado, here's our beautiful bride, Bethany!

Our "rut" and a SMOKING hot Lafayette Boudoir Session!!!

©2013 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max TromblyNo matter what job it is that you work, or what you do in life, from time to time everyone experiences getting caught in a rut.  Well, Max and I recently found ourselves in that rut.  It happens to the best of us, yes, but we're not allowed to not rock all the time!  We have a job to do and we take it very seriously.... making women feel sexy!  We were getting bored with our studio and shooting the same stuff all the time.  We needed a change, some inspiration, that little UMPH that sparks the life into us and makes us do what we do. You see, the problem was... well... this is somewhat embarrassing for a boudoir photographer to admit.... ahem.  Well, we were... too timid.  There, I said it.  Ridiculous, right?!  I know, I thought the same thing.  We pride ourselves at making our clients' comfort our top priority.  We never.... ever ever ever... want to make a client feel uncomfortable at any point during a session.  Our clients put a great deal of trust in us and it's a huge honor for us to be chosen as someone's boudoir photographer because it's a sensitive genre of photography.  Somewhere along the lines we became overly cautious and stopped shooting photos that pushed the limits of sexy.  Our work became *gasp* tame!!!  Tame to us, at least.  We like to push boundaries from time to time. We knew some of our clients really wanted to create photos to make their husband's mouth drop open, photos that were seriously hot and steamy.  But we failed to differentiate which clients wanted what... there's so many things we can do with boudoir so we just played it safe.

Moving forward.  We implemented some changes and all of a sudden WHOA!!!  Our work got A LOT steamier!  One of the changes we made was a pre-session questionnaire asking clients a series of questions to get to know them better, and to determine what kind of session they want to do.  Questions asking what degree of undress they are comfortable with helps us know how far to push.  One question in particular has changed everything.  The question is "Is there a certain look you are going for?  For example; more anonymous shots, portraits, detail and closeup body shots, smiling & playful, seductive, tastefully erotic, black & white, etc.  We're going to get a variety, but this helps us to know what you're looking for".  I knew from the very first questionnaire we received that it was a game changer.  It allowed us to know how far to go.  You can never guess what someone wants, women surprise us all the time!  We shoot a variety of styles, not everyone fits in the same box.  Some women want glamorous, some want playful, others want sultry, and some even tastefully erotic.

This brings us to Nicole.  She was the life raft we needed to get us out of our rut.  First off, her session took place in Lafayette, Louisiana.  One of our favorite locations to shoot at!!!  So we were already super excited and inspired.  We love getting out of the studio for a change of scenery.  Nicole let us know that she was looking for some tastefully erotic photos.  Jackpot!  We knew this was our perfect opportunity to see if we could do it.  Max and I pumped ourselves up on the way to the session saying that we would create the images that we wanted to create without worrying about going to far because we knew what Nicole's limits were.  From the moment we met her til the moment she left, it was pure magic. We were able to explore things that we haven't been able to with clients before.

Here are the images to show you exactly what I mean.  I'm warning you though, they're pretty steamy!

Stefanie's Black & White Boudoir Session | Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Before & AfterSome of our clients manage to make their way into our heart, where they will always have a place.  Stefanie has touched us in a way that will will never forget.  I'll let her tell the story:

Dear Jen and Max,

I can’t thank you enough for my amazing experience with you guys through Breathless Boudoir.  I had only learned about the concept of boudoir photography a few months ago, and to be honest the whole idea was foreign to me.  I had dance recital and senior portraits taken of me, but those were years ago; I’d never thought to put myself “out there” in such a detailed fashion.

When you grow up associated with being “too gangly-legged” to take hip-hop class and “too skinny” to be anything but anorexic, you develop a less than stellar self-image.  And shopping?  Forget about it!  Nothing fits quite right – how’re you supposed to feel confident when clothes hang all over you?  I know, I know *skinny girl problems* right?   Yoga has helped me to appreciate, rather than be envious, of gorgeous bodies, but it’s still a huge blow to the ego when you try on the latest pieces and leave without buying anything because you feel just plain ridiculous.

My role model is Audrey Hepburn and she made skinny not only beautiful, but downright sexy.  These days, you don’t see anyone with less than a D cup in any of the Victoria’s Secret magazines.  You’d be hard pressed to find a “sexy” model with hips so bony that they could take out a granite counter top!

That being said, I was a bit terrified of putting myself out there in all my “skinny glory”.  But I had to do something for my 25th birthday to boost my confidence.  You guys were so open and easy to talk to that by the time my hair and make-up were done, I wasn’t worried about my inability to be photogenic – heck, I was ready for my close up!  You made me feel confident that you’d find the angles that were uniquely flattering for my body.  From assuming the position yourselves, to asking me to make the most obnoxious laugh ever just to capture the natural laugh that was sure to follow, you guided me to be seductive, and dare I say it, beautiful.

The shoot itself was unbelievably fun, but I was absolutely blown away when we sat down to view what you had captured.  I didn’t see an uber-self-conscious skinny girl, I suddenly saw the confident 25 year old that I want to be.  So what if I don’t look like a Victoria’s Secret modelthey don’t look like me!  I couldn’t believe how amazing you made me look… It just goes to show you why Audrey insisted on always having Bob Willoughby as her photographer - no matter how insecure you are, when you’re in the hands of talented photographers such as yourselves, the results are nothing short of awe-inspiring.

I can’t wait to have my pictures - the confidence this shoot gave me is beyond priceless.  This was only going to be a “happy birthday to me”, but after this experience, I want to do a session every year just to have fun!  You guys are truly AWESOME and I can’t wait to work with you again! With SO much gratitude,

Stefanie

Whew.... every time I read that it makes me tear up.  And I've already read it 4 or 5 times.  Her testimonial is a great reminder to Max and I about why we do what we do, and what we started out with boudoir photography to do. Allowing a woman to see herself without seeing what she perceives as flaws first is the greatest gift we can give.  What we do is so incredibly fulfilling to us that we owe Stefanie just as much thanks as she has given us, if not more.  Our clients make our lives wonderful, and for that we are eternally grateful!

I shall stall no longer, Stefanie's photos must be seen!  For her album, she did something we haven't done before... all black & white!  I just love how it came out!  It's classic and timeless, just like the look she was going for.

An amazing boudoir session with Emily!

Before and after makeover transformation©2013 Breathless BoudoirThis is Emily.  She is an absolutely amazing person and probably one of my favorite people I've ever met.  She's a full time mom to her adorable little girl, Emma.  Sometimes being a mom can take over a woman's time leaving no time for herself.  Emily came to us for her 30th birthday.  She wanted to feel beautiful again, and she wanted to scratch off a boudoir photo shoot from her bucket list.  She also wanted to give her husband an album as a gift, so it was a win win win situation. Here's what Emily had to say about her session,

Jen and Max,

I just wanted to say to both of you again how much FUN I had today, and how much I appreciate your professionalism, attention to detail and most of all your talent. Your work truly does speak for itself, and I noted that when I first came across your website. I felt amazing today-not just the way I looked in the photos, but the way I felt alive and beautiful and confident on the inside. That is a priceless feeling that I won't soon forget.  I can't wait to see the book and give it to my husband. What a shocker of a gift!!! Thank you both from the bottom of my heart for an amazing experience, and I am totally sending my mom to you guys ;)

P.S. Apparently I was unofficially the "least likely" of any of my girlfriends to do a boudoir session, as my reactions have been mostly "what? YOU??" hahaha. I made them all promise to call you guys if they decided to do a session!
