For her FIRST BOUDOIR SESSION, Crystal was nervous about being exposed, uncomfortable and imperfect. But when she saw her photos and fell in love with them, she realized how in love with the whole experience she was. So much so, that only five months later she decided to have another boudoir experience, but this time couple's boudoir with her boyfriend! I LIVE for couple's sessions, you guys! I could just live to capture that moment of tension and electricity when couple's lip's are mere millimeters apart and the anticipation is building. I love being part of capturing the love and passion between two people, I feel so fortunate be able to do what I do.
What she said...
What was your biggest fear before the session? Did your fear come true, and if not, what happened instead?
I was afraid of being exposed, uncomfortable, and imperfect but that fear did not come true. As soon as I walked in, I felt very comfortable with the decision to have the photo shoot and with being there. I loved having my hair and makeup done and loved how it looked! Jen made me very comfortable and I didn't feel exposed at all. My fear of being imperfect went away after I saw the pictures and was amazed.
What was your favorite part of your Breathless Boudoir experience and why?
My favorite part of the experience was seeing the pictures. It was such a great experience to see myself in a completely different way!
How would your describe your experience to your best friend?
It was fantastic and completely worth it! I wanted to do this for myself and my boyfriend. Now that I've seen the pictures, I'm going to share them with him, but it's really a gift for me!

That's what she said...
My favorite part of the session was...
"How comfortable Jen made me feel from the first email exchange we had. She was genuinely excited to work with me and I felt like she quickly understood what I wanted from the photo shoot. Jen is so good at directing, which is key to getting a good photo. She told me exactly what to do and how to pose and I didn't have to think about it or feel awkward. I felt really good and I had fun while she photographed me. And I don't like to be photographed normally!"
Her biggest fear...
"That I would feel completely nervous and self-conscious and look really stiff and not sexy in the photos."

"You seriously blew me away and I just left thinking like "Why didn't I do this sooner?!?!" You are an amazing human being with a keen eye for tapping into a women's inner sensuality and capturing it on film. More women should do this, for not only their significant others, but just for themselves. And they should definitely experience themselves in this light with you. You are a gem. I will definitely be throwing my friends your way for photo sessions. I can't tell you enough how great of an experience that was. And you made me feel and look beautiful. Ahh! I can't wait to stare at the photos again! Other than my wedding day, I've never seen myself look so beautiful in photos. Thank you so much for everything you've done to make sure I receive this in time. If you're brand wasn't already stellar in eyes, you've definitely set the bar even higher for any company I've ever worked with. I will definitely be writing all sorts of reviews for you once the cats out the bag and sending everyone I know to you. You never cease to amaze me with your talent, professionalism, and customer service!"
What was your biggest fear before the session?
Did your fear come true, and if not, what happened instead? My biggest fear was dropping my mask. And believe it or not, my fear did come true but I was liberated for it. When I was in my early 20s, I was more in tune with my sensuality and sexuality. But in today society, being so comfortable in one's skin gets you labeled as a "slut" or "easy." So as an adult, I've tucked that side of myself away and have become more conservative to become a "lady." Because this session leaves it all to bare, you really can't hide behind anything because all there is IS your skin. And it forced me to ask myself the hard question: "Why hadn't I been comfortable in my own skin earlier?"
What was your favorite part of your Breathless Boudoir experience and why?
Jen! As an artist myself, it was fascinating to see her creative process. She's extremely talented in giving the most mundane directions like "tilt your head, open your mouth wider" and it translates into the most sensual shot.

Yep. That's right. I got to do an outdoor boudoir photo shoot in my yard today. It was actually my front yard, not my backyard. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to live on 10 beautiful, serene (and private) acres. My home is my idea of paradise. Golden rolling hills dipping down into a refreshing pond that I've spent many summer days in. I love being able to combine my paradise with my passion and create beautiful photos, right here at home. I didn't even have to put shoes on for this shoot because I didn't leave my house! Hair & Makeup by Nicole Laughlin <---(click to see more of her work!)
"Every woman should do Boudoir AT LEAST once. EVERY WOMAN. Sexuality is, and always has been such an important part of who I am, but I always felt like it wasn’t okay to express it unless I looked a certain way. In a way, I was in hiding. And my heart breaks for all other beautiful women who feel inhibited by shame or guilt because they feel like they don’t look the “part.” Once I realized I will never look like American culture tells me I should, I started to allow myself to experience what sensuality feels like in my own, unique body. And it is that allowing of experiencing and expressing that is more liberating than I have words to describe. Working with Jen is so profound for this reason. She puts you at ease and is extremely established in her craft, so you get the sense that everything is taken care of and you can just have some fun! At this point you are able to come out of hiding and say, “Hello world, Here I am in all my glorious me-ness!!!” So not only do you get that visceral experience of what it feels like to express yourself sensually, but after the fact when you see the pictures, you see yourself in a way you never imagined. You realize, “Hey, I’ve been sexy all along! Look at my curves how beautiful they look bathed in light!!” I truly hope more women experience working with Jen!!! And learn how to fall in love with their bodies. It is a powerful thing reflecting on this session, and realizing how important of an event it is for my journey towards self love and acceptance."
Julie and I did this boudoir shoot in the beginning of the year in Richmond, Virginia as a wedding gift for her soon to be husband. We waited to post it until after her wedding so we could keep it a surprise. I got all giddy when she contacted me, the way I always do when fellow photographers contact me to do a shoot. It's the best compliment I could possibly get. Another professional photographer, someone who is in the industry and has the critical and creative eye wants me to do her shoot? HELL YEAH! I felt absolutely honored that she loved my work and trusted me to do her shoot.
I'm going to get a little real here. I know it's silly, but I always get nervous when photographing other photographers still, even though I've done it a dozen or so times. I just feel like photographers know what they like, and know what they're looking at when it comes to lighting, posing, composition, etc. Deep in my bones I know that I know what I'm doing. I've been doing this for almost 8 years now. And I know that they wouldn't be hiring me if they didn't like my style... but damn it, that self judgement snaps in and I'm questioning my work. I am human, after all. In the end I feel like we knocked her shoot out of the park. She was thrilled with the photos, as was I.
And I know I've said this before... but I'm so in love with that tub!!!! This place is definitely my favorite hotel to shoot in in Virginia. Consider me smitten. =^.^=
I'm SOOOO thrilled that Julie did a shoot with me because she used her own makeup artist, Nicole Laughlin, who I ended up falling in loooove with! So I stole her for my own shoots. =) She's laid back with a positive attitude, which makes her fun to work with! She has 15+ years of experience in the hair and makeup industry. Nicole is amazingly talented at what she does, she can rock the all out glam look one day then do a natural and timeless look flawlessly the next. She's skilled with working with all skin types, ages, and colors. You can check out Nicole's website HERE and follow her work on Instagram HERE.
It was a chilly December night and I stepped into Mono Loco, a popular music venue in Charlottesville, for Adar's show. I hadn't seen her before, so I didn't know what I was in for. I was practicing doing things in public on my own to overcome my social anxiety, so I was nervous. Then this tiny, gorgeous creature walked onto the set and picks up the microphone. Her stage presence was so real, so honest and raw. As soon as she opened her mouth to sing nothing but a deep velvety smoke poured out and caressed my eardrums. I forgot I was nervous. Standing in the front of the crowd, I started to sway my hips to the beats. Gently at first, then as the rhythms grow so did the motions of my hips. I didn't care if anyone else was dancing, I couldn't help but dance to every single song they played. I was mesmerized and vowed at that moment to go to every possible Adar show that I could. Fast forward a couple months later. I posted a model call blog post asking for a guinea pig to come try out this AMAZING hotel room in Richmond, Virginia with a to-die-for-tub surrounded by windows. Who responded? None other than Adar herself! To say the shoot was an inspiration would be an understatement. Being able to share my talent with a woman who has an incredible amount of talent herself was just awe-inspiring! We had a blast for her shoot!
I love this woman for being so unapologetically her.

We'll make lifelong friends out of strangers. This will be a bucket list trip you'll never...ever...forget.
Kauai seemed to be the perfect setting, and when we arrived there for the scouting trip we realized we couldn't be more right. There is something so very raw about Kauai's landscape. The mountains rip up out of the earth and form jagged, yet luscious, fingers-like ridges that slope down and disappear into the sea. The daily rains make the flowering trees come to life like nowhere I've ever seen before. There is no way to come to this island and not feel changed by it.

Your yoga & meditation instructor, Alicia Willemet - Alicia Willemet is a certified Shambhava Hatha & Swan River Yoga teacher and the Director of Louisiana Yoga School. Since her first teacher training in 2009 at Shambhava Ashram, she has pursued teaching yoga and meditation full-time. After mentoring Michele Baker’s teacher trainings in 2011 and 2012, she created her own curriculum and has been offering 200-hour trainings in Baton Rouge since 2013. Seeing the need for a more cohesive yoga community and a way to support local teachers and studios, Alicia created Louisiana Yoga School as a way to support local teachers and studios.
